Public safety committee

The mandate of the Public safety committee focuses primarily on collaboration of Policing, Fire Protection & Emergency measures. This allows the Restigouche RSC as well as the various departments and agencies involved in public safety (directly or indirectly) to share good/best practices, and to bring recommendations to improve the effectiveness and use of resources relative to public safety services.

Off Road Rescue Unit

The Restigouche Regional Service Commission Off-Road Remote Rescue Unit is a regional emergency response initiative established to provide specialized rescue services in remote and difficult-to-access areas throughout the Restigouche region. The unit enhances public safety by supporting local fire departments, RCMP, Ambulance New Brunswick, and other emergency responders during off-road emergencies, particularly snowmobile incidents and winter rescues.

The unit consists of a dedicated rescue snowmobile, a rescue sled (Snowbulance), and a transport trailer. Coordinated by the RRSC and primarily operated by the Campbellton Fire Department, the service is available to participating municipalities through a regional partnership agreement. The RRSC is responsible for coordinating the program and overseeing equipment maintenance, insurance, and long-term sustainability, while Campbellton provides trained personnel and operational response.

By pooling resources and fostering regional collaboration, the Off-Road Remote Rescue Unit improves emergency response capabilities, reduces response times in remote environments, and provides a cost-effective public safety service for communities across Restigouche.
