Regional Service Commissions were created by the Province of New Brunswick in 2013 to:
- Strengthen cooperation
- Deliver cost effective services
- Improve accountability and transparency
As part of the Local Governance Reform in New Brunswick, the RSCs were bestowed new regional mandates::
- Local Land use planning
- Solid Waste Management
- Regional Tourism Promotion
- Economic Development
- Community Development & Transportation
- Public Safety Committee
- Cost sharing of regional Infrastructure
REGIONAL VOICE: Within its mandate of acting as a regional forum for collaboration among communities on regional issues, the Restigouche RSC intervenes on behalf of the region on issues where there is consensus.

Restigouche Regional Service Commission encompasses the municipalities, communities and Local service districts from Durham Parish (excluding Belledune) in the East to the Kedgwick Rural Community in the West.
